XNOR

This game prototype was part of the “Spielerei” exhibition at the Fantoche International Animation Film Festival 2009 in Baden, where a bunch of game design stundents from the University of Arts Zürich could present their creations to a wider audience for the first time.

XNOR was an experiment around the idea of “interaction vs. non-interaction” as in “games vs. movies” by trying to separate these concepts in two distinct gameplay-layers. In the “movie layer” animations are playing and things are moving around but players cannot interact with otherwise interactable objects, while in the “game layer” all animations stop and the world gets dark and cold but players can now push all the switches to manipulate the world. Players have to switch between these two layers to solve puzzles and to ultimately reach the level-exit.
